Sentencing Guidelines Reduces Drug Quantity Down

In April of this year, the United States Sentencing Commission voted on an amendment to the Sentencing Guidelines which reduces the drug quantity table down two levels. The offense levels in the drug quantity table at 2D1.1 and the precursor table at 2D1.11 are reduced by 2 levels. This amendment takes effect on November 1st. Defense counsel representing clients who face sentencing on federal drug crimes should continue sentencing past November 1st or cite the guidelines amendment when arguing for a variance. On July 18, 2014 at a public meeting, the Sentencing Commission voted unanimously to apply a reduction in the sentencing guideline levels applicable to most federal drug trafficking offenders retroactively. What this means is that beginning November 1, 2014, eligible offenders can ask courts to reduce their sentences.
